Arabic vs Indian Mehendi: Choosing the Right Style
Coverage, application time, cost and occasion — how to pick between the two most requested styles.
Coverage and style
Arabic mehendi is bold, flowing and leaves generous negative space — thick vines, large petals and shaded outlines. Indian mehendi is fine-lined and dense, filling the hand with mandalas, jaali and figurative motifs.
Time and cost
An Arabic design on both hands takes twenty to forty minutes. A full Indian bridal design takes four to six hours and is priced accordingly.
For a sangeet or a party where you want maximum impact quickly, Arabic wins. For the bride herself, Indian bridal is still the standard.
Choosing by occasion
Haldi and mehendi ceremony guests: Arabic. Bride: full Indian bridal, possibly with Arabic elements on the feet. Festivals like Eid and Karwa Chauth: either, depending on how much time you have.
